Kinesiology Taping

Kinesiology Taping is a therapeutic modality used by Physical Therapists trained in a rehabilitative taping technique designed to promote the body’s natural healing process and give support to muscles, ligaments and joints.   While giving support, this special tape allows for more effect movement patterns without restricting range of motion.

The tape is latex-free, water-resistant, able to stretch and can be worn for several days at a time.  It is used for a variety of common physical conditions and can be applied to the skin in hundreds of ways.

Based on findings from a clinical evaluation and assessment, our Physical Therapist will decide if taping would be beneficial for you.  If so, the most appropriate tape application, such as the tape direction and amount of stretch placed on the tape will be determined.   We will teach you how to reapply the tape at home, if you wish.

Usually, the taping modality is combined with other physical therapy protocols and techniques to help treat your specific problem.  Some common uses of kinesiology tape include:

  • Decrease pain/analgesic effects
  • Facilitates muscle contraction or inhibits muscle spasms
  • Feedback to prevent injury
  • Postural correction
  • Joint stability and alignment
  • Decrease inflammation
  • Increase blood and lymphatic circulation and decrease swelling
  • Ligament and tendon support
  • Prolongs benefits from manual therapy
  • Scar tissue management

Call for an appointment to discuss how Kinesiology taping may help you.
